Mothfrost and Birchflower hadn’t taken very long to decide on a joint training session between their apprentices – after all, a little friendly sibling competition was a great training incentive. Deciding the subject matter and location had taken a bit more discussion, but with relative ease they had settled on battle training in the sandy hollow and passed the news on to their relative apprentices. Agreeing to meet later in the day (well after sun-high and the overwhelming heat of the greenleaf day) had left Birchflower with a pleasant, slow morning.
Which, of course, she took full advantage of – she spent her morning chatting with WildClan’s current queens and playing with their kits, as well as lounging in the shade of the great rock when the sun’s rays shone down the hardest. Other cats came and went with the day’s patrols and she asked them about the borders – or she discussed apprentices and training techniques with a few of her fellow mentors. All in all, it was an enjoyable day, and as sun-high came and went, Birchflower was perfectly ready for the training session to come.
She didn’t stop to hunt for her apprentice – she had given Cinderpaw the morning off because of their plans, so he could have been anywhere in the camp or the nearby territory. She trusted him to meet her and the others at the sandy hollow. Besides, how could he pass up this opportunity?
Birchflower made the trip from the camp to the sandy hollow at a quick, easy pace. Interestingly enough, it was rather empty at this time of day – she would have thought other mentors would have taken advantage of the waning sunlight like she and Mothfrost were. Then again, she wasn’t going to complain. Having the extra space just made battle training that much easier.
After a quick glance around to see if any of the others had arrived yet, Birchflower settled herself back on her haunches in the rough center of the hollow – plainly visible for her companions to find.
