LEADER [AUDITIONS OPEN] [OPEN INDEFINITELY]
HIGH RANK RESPONSIBILITIES 1) will be in charge of assigning apprentice/mentor pairings. They can either PM a staff member with their choices, or post them up themselves. 2) will also be in charge of keeping track of the training threads between mentors and apprentices (explained in character rules) so they know when apprentices are ready to become warriors. 3) will be involved in choosing a new deputy when the position is open.
These auditions will not happen often. Hopefully, whenever we have a leader die or go inactive, we will have a deputy willing to step up. But there will be rare cases where we will open up auditions for the leader of WildClan.
Right now is one such time. Now, you may join up on this site and notice that we already have a leader – Badgerstar. But if you take a gander at his app, you’ll notice that he’s 110 moons old (ooold for a clan kitty), and has only one life left. And then you’ll notice that, conveniently, he has no deputy. I will direct you to the end portion of his history (you really don’t need to read the whole thing) for the reasons behind that, rather than retyping them here. So, when Badgerstar dies (which will be happening sometime after we get the site more active and underway), StarClan is going to intervene before chaos breaks out. IC, they will pick the cat most fitting to be the new leader – OOC, we’ll be doing that here.
I would highly suggest making your character normally, and then auditioning with them, because I cannot tell you exactly when this will happen IC. Your audition may be sitting for a while, even a few months as we try to get plots rolling. So it would be very helpful to actually play your character – get a better feel for them than writing an app gives you, plot out relationships with current characters, etc. When it comes time to choose the new leader, we will take current and past rp activity into account.
However, you do not have to make and play your character. Maybe you have other character ideas you want to make, and want this character to only be made if they get the leadership position. That’s fine as well – but you will still need to make a temporary account for them and fill out an app, because we want that information. We will make a special board for audition-only apps, and you can simply mention in the thread title or at the very top of the app that it is audition-only.
Either way, once your app has been posted and accepted, you will need to come here and fill out an additional (much smaller and more specific) form:
Cbox name: (what we call you) Complete list of characters: (list ‘em) Activity level: (a post a week/a post a day/checking the site most days and posting when needed/however you want to describe it – we will be taking your current activity level into account anyway) Your willingness to work with staff for plots: (you will be integral to major plots, or incredibly affected by them, so you will need to keep an eye on your PMs)
If this character is not chosen for leader, do you want to be put in the running for deputy? (yes/no)
Character name: (their warrior name, not the –star name) Character app: (link to your posted, accepted app) Traits that make this character a good choice for leader: (list and explain them) Negative traits of this character: (because we all need balance, and want to know what we’re getting into – list and explain them) Roleplay sample: (choose one of the following prompts and write out your average post – note: length will not earn you brownie points; we’re looking for quality, not quantity)
1) Organize/start a patrol – border or hunting
2) A band of loners and rogues has grown too comfortable near the clan border, and have recently begun crossing said border and stealing prey. You do not know how many of them there are, but that they are larger than your average patrol and have not been intimidated by the few clan cats they have come in contact with. How do you deal with them?

Cbox name: Teapot Complete list of characters: Nettlestripe, Cinderpaw, Dappledbrook Activity level: Currently, meaning this summer, I’ll have plenty of spare time on my hands. This means right up until the mid-September I can guarantee a few posts a week and logging in everyday as long as I have internet and replying to what needs to be replied to. I don’t have any major no-internet vacations planned for the rest of the summer, but if they do pop up I’ll give in notice. Honestly, once the summer’s over I’m heading to a pretty challenging uni and I have no way of knowing how much time I’ll be able to dedicate here. However, as long as this site is still active (dying sites kill all my motivation) I’ll put in my best effort to check in once a week at least. Your willingness to work with staff for plots: I’m up for anything you guys can throw at me.
If this character is not chosen for leader, do you want to be put in the running for deputy? yes
Character name: Dappledbrook Character app: Clickity
Traits that make this character a good choice for leader: Confident: Dappledbrook is unlikely to back down from any task that’s set to her. While her pride and confidence in her ability can come off as arrogance at times, Dappledbrook has the kind of attitude to be able to trust herself to make decisions for others. She’s responsible with having control, not allowing any power to get to her head due to her heart being in the right place.
Practical: You’ll rarely find Dappledbrook speechless or helpless as she’ll always have something to say or something to do. She works with what she has with the calm and flowing manner someone who knows what they’re doing, even if she hasn’t filled in all the loopholes yet. She does her best to be fair and give second chances.
Hard-working: A bit of a perfectionist, Dappledbrook doesn’t like to see anything out of its place and would probably do everything in her power to makes things easier for her clan and prevent problems. She has worked herself to the bone to get where she is today and shows no sign of faltering or even slowing down. This leads into her final positive trait.
Ambitious: Her entire life has been focused on the idea rising. Unlike others, Dappledbrook wouldn’t be happy to be a simple warrior, content with serving her clan and friends until she died. When she was an apprentice she longed to be a strong, loved warrior, when she became a warrior she strove to become the best. Although she isn’t the best warrior in the clan now by a long shot, Dappledbrook has always had her sights set high. Since a young age she has known deep down that she wanted to be leader and she has worked hard towards that goal, never losing sight. Whether she would make a good leader if she does get there is unknown. After all, when your whole purpose in life has been set on climbing a ladder, what do you do when you reach the top?
Negative traits of this character: Impatient: Dappledbrook likes to move quickly in both decisions and work. She’s not one to over think something. While this kind of thing could be perfect in a situation that needs a quick decision, it can’t be guaranteed that Dappledbrook will make the right one. Her rashness might be just the thing that plunges the clan into unnecessary danger.
Not much of a team-player: What do I mean by this? Dappledbrook doesn’t work well with others. She thinks herself infallible in most situations, doesn’t care much to hear the opinion of others and mostly just does her own thing. Even if she does take any advice, she’ll believe that she had been thinking it all along or blame someone else. Her blatant disregard for advice and outside opinion could mean the clan would be headed into another Badgerstar situation with a cat that refuses to change her own mind.
Ruthless: While she tries to be fair and kind, Dappledbrook’s nature is to respond to being hurt by making her adversary feel double the pain. An eye for a leg would be more up her alley. This kind of anger could not only be dangerous in a position of power but bias Dappledbrook’s decision making. The only thing that balances out this side of Dappledbrook is her ingrained belief that she needs to help her clan as much as possible to prove herself. An example of this can be seen by how she managed to treat her apprentice, Eaglepaw, well.
Roleplay sample:
2) A band of loners and rogues has grown too comfortable near the clan border, and have recently begun crossing said border and stealing prey. You do not know how many of them there are, but that they are larger than your average patrol and have not been intimidated by the few clan cats they have come in contact with. How do you deal with them?
Dappledstar’s paws felt light as she led her clanmates across Wildclan territory to its very edge. Her mind occasionally swam with outbursts of memory, events that had only just passed. She could still see Heronflight’s patrol returning with stony, outraged faces, and their words and their meaning rang in her wind-pressed ears.
“They crossed the border,” Heronflight had spat, his fury evident in his bristling fur. His rage seemed to not have left him the entire journey back to the Wildclan camp. “We saw them taking prey. Voletail nearly attacked them but we came back. I left the others to keep watch.”
A spasm of guilt swept through Dappledstar but she pushed it away with her next bound. She had hoped for a non-violent solution to this but now things had only gotten worse. She should not have allowed them to stay so close to the border...
When the group of strange cats had appeared near the border of Wildclan territory, Dappledstar had sought every way to prevent a fight. It had been only a few sunrises ago when a Wildclan patrol came to camp saying that they had spotted strange cats near the border. Dappledstar had returned to the spot they spoke of with a fresh patrol and came across a few cats sitting right at the border; not crossing it but sitting, as though waiting. They had said they had not come across such a strong border before and were curious as to how the clan cats lived. The strangers answered the questions the clan cats posed with side-stepping, frustratingly empty answers. The only useful information they gave was when they were asked if they were alone.
“Oh no,” they had purred, curling their tails in amusement, “there’s much, much more of us than there are of you.” There had been 6 cats in that patrol and 4 strange cats. A bluff? Perhaps. But Dappledstar was not willing to risk it. She had told the loners they came across that they were not to approach the territory, that there would be severe consequences if they did so. The strange cats had replied that they had no interest in their territory but planned to stay a while.
The moment the loners were out of earshot, Dappledstar turned to her patrol.
“You two, follow them as far as you can and then come back here and keep watch. If they see you, leave. Don’t speak to them. Find out how many there are.” Her eyes swept over her clanmates, “Patrols will be doubled from now on to this area of the border. I want to make sure they don’t try anything.”
Her deputy had mentioned that it may have been better to send a message then and there, to attack the cats for being too close to the border and intimidate any others. It was unlikely they would have had time to call for the rest of their band anyway, if there even was one to begin with. But Dappledstar had made her decision and was sticking to it. They never found out how many cats there were as there seemed to be no main camp of any sorts across the border in any direction. A few days passed with a small number of sightings but never with them crossing the border. But now the rouges had grown cocky.
Behind her, Dapplestar had brought plenty of the strongest and most able warriors, although she had left a few at camp. Although it was unlikely, the rouges may have made this into a distraction while they attacked their real goal: the camp. Dappledstar was confident that she had left enough fast apprentices along the way so that if they caught sight of any enemy intruder, they would sound the alarm and come get the main force immediately.
The sun was setting in a haze of red and orange straight ahead of them, blinding the surging mass of cats. Yet even with the light in her eyes, Dappledstar could see the band of cats formed raggedly just inside the border, facing them. The mottled she-cat slowed down, and her clanmates halted with her.
Her ears flattened as she surveyed the scene. The loners had not been lying about their numbers. A dozen or so cats of varying size and age stood side by side. The largest of them, a great, fluffy dark grey tom stood slightly more forward, further into Wildclan territory than his band. It was him she faced, even though she spoke to all.
“You were warned not to cross this border,” She called across a distance which seemed infinite but which, in reality, was no more than a few fox lengths, “and by your own choice you did not heed that warning.”
She paused, her tail lashing the air angrily. Dappledstar was glad now that she had brought so many of her warriors. They nearly doubled the rogues. Still, there may be others hidden. Why else would they stand so blatantly out in the open like this? She had given these strangers every chance to be peaceful but enough was enough. There was no other way now. “Now I shall say it one final time,” she yowled, her fur bristling in anger, “You are not welcome here!”
This time, in the silence that followed the grey tom took a single, defiant step forward, almost like a kit deliberately disobeying its mother. There will be no more words, Dappledstar thought, and she threw her weight into the setting sun with claws unsheathed and fangs bared.
