Your willingness to work with staff for plots: i am extremely willing (not to mention excited) to work with y'all! i want to be very involved with this site.
Character name: foxstep
Character app: here!
Traits that make this character a good choice for deputy:
charismatic – foxstep is really friendly and charming. there’s no way he wouldn’t be well-liked by most members of his clan, or at least tolerated. he suits the part of a politician and likes to be on everyone’s good side; he’s certainly socially aware, always aiming to please. he has a good, if dry, sense of humor that should keep wildclan spirits high.
responsible – foxstep loves taking care of business. he would be almost overly eager to perform his duties as a deputy, and will do them well. from organizing patrols to helping out with tasks better suited to apprentices, he’ll do it all and then some. he is full of enthusiasm for clan life, which makes him all the more suited for the position of deputy.
intelligent – while sometimes he may seem like a vain little flirt, foxstep is not lacking in brains. he’s a clever cat, always coming up with more efficient ways to do things. he’s a brilliant hunter and fighter because he thinks of things in ways that most cats wouldn’t.
rebellious – this could be a positive or a negative, depending on whether you want a rebellion to be a site-wide plot or not! foxstep would definitely be willing to lead a rebellion against wildclan in order to restore the clans to their original states. he’s not openly opposed to wildclan, however. his opinion would only ever be known if he knew he had lots of support from other cats.
Negative traits of this character:
arrogant – foxstep might come across as cocky to some cats – well, that’s because he is! he’s not afraid to talk about himself highly, and his entire aura seems to ooze a little bit more confidence than strictly necessary. if there was some sort of battle between wildclan and a band of rogues/loners, he might rush into a battle because he’s convinced they will win due to his superior battle tactics and end up failing.
not truly loyal to wildclan – again, this can be taken as either a positive or a negative, depending on how you want the site plot to pan out. foxstep is loyal to starclan and the warrior code above wildclan, which makes him more likely to rebel. he is loyal to his clanmates and would defend them, but would fight against those who support staying one clan if it ever came down to that.
overall, i think foxstep is certainly a flawed cat – arrogant, promiscuous, sneaky, rebellious – but i don’t think those traits would prevent him from doing his duty as a deputy. well, unless he rebels against his own clan. that would probably do it. [x i think his charisma, cleverness, and enthusiasm for clan life in general make him a great candidate for deputy.
Roleplay sample:2) Your leader has given you an unpleasant task (up to you) – one that might even be against the warrior code – but they have assured you multiple times that it doesn’t have to go that far. And after all, the clan leader’s word is law. What do you do?
(let me preface this by saying i just picked a random name – froststar – to be leader, as i know the leader will have been changed by the time the deputy is chosen. also, this is a bit longer than i’d write for the average post – i’d say 400-600 is about typical for me and this is 700ish – but i wanted to capture fox as deputy the best i could. c:)
foxstep had to really shake himself awake.
it was extremely cold outside, though it was only the beginning of leafbare. the bleak scent of snow floated in the freezing air; the impending blizzard would be the first of the season, and foxstep assessed that it would be upon his clan soon. he shivered at the thought of it, vehemently hating every snowflake that descended onto wildclan’s territory. the deputy’s close-cropped pelt didn’t have much insulation to keep him warm, that was for certain, and its ginger color was a stark contrast against the blank whiteness of snow. he was definitely not looking forward to what was sure to be a long and unforgiving leaf-bare; almost as much as he wasn’t looking forward to the difficult day ahead of him.
he had been having such pleasant dreams while asleep in his den, warm and comforted by the multi-hued pelts of his clanmates. while he was free to move into a more private den, foxstep chose to continue sleeping with the warriors of wildclan. for now, anyway. he wasn’t doing it because of a desire to seem humble to what were now his subordinates; he had entirely more selfish reasons. he was cold. the best way to keep himself warm at night was to snuggle up with his clanmates – especially if he was nestled between two pretty she-cats, as he was last night. do i really have to get up?
on any other morning, he would have been perfectly content, even eager, to wake up before dawn and perform his duties as a deputy. he had been going going going since he moved up in rank only one moon ago, rarely stopping to do anything for himself. he had to remind himself to groom his pelt! he made sure to do every single task possible, from organizing patrols to discussing clan affairs with froststar to helping out with chores better suited to an apprentice. there was not enough time in the day to get everything done, but he loved the feeling of importance being deputy gave him. and today was the day he got to formally meet his new apprentice! he thought fondly of his time spent mentoring bramblefang and poppyflight. he was more than pleased when froststar told him that he could have his pick of the oldest litter in the clan yesterday.
but the oldest litter in the clan was only five moons old.
at first, foxstep didn’t realize how young they were. they certainly seemed old enough to be apprentices – the two kits, mistkit and antkit, got into everything. they were constantly in the middle of camp play-fighting, and foxstep was already impressed with mistkit’s mind for fighting despite her smaller size. the kits were born to strong, healthy warriors during a particularly plentiful greenleaf. they were definitely approaching apprentice-size despite their age. but soon enough, foxstep remembered when exactly they were born. it was only five moons ago. could it have been a mistake on froststar’s part?
doubtful. foxstep could sense his leader’s unease about the upcoming leaf-bare – everyone seemed worried; even leaf-fall was unusually barren that year. foxstep knew intuitively that froststar was rushing the apprenticeship of the kits in order to have more cats to hunt, and on the surface this seemed reasonable. kits aren’t allowed to hunt, and the more cats hunting, the more prey caught. these kits weren’t even that much younger than what was standard for apprentices.
however, breaking the warrior code was against foxstep’s beliefs. he knew deep within him that he was loyal to starclan and the warrior code before wildclan. wildclan was based on principles that directly defied the warrior code, anyway – what ever happened to the clans not being able to unite in order to drive out another clan, like what happened before the birth of wildclan? are all parts of the code that include things about clan relations simply to be ignored? he shook his head, clearing it of undeniably rebellious thoughts. not now. he was no longer dreading leaving his den. a spark flew within him, lighting his golden eyes with a fiery determination to not allow this denial of the warrior code. he felt warm from the inside out.
he gave himself one last shake before padding silently to froststar’s den, snow finally falling.
