DEPUTY [AUDITIONS OPEN] [OPEN INDEFINITELY]
HIGH RANK RESPONSIBILITIES 1) will be in charge of organizing patrols every other month (explained in character rules).
Hopefully, these auditions won’t be happening very often either – after all, we all want our clan leaders to live long and fruitful lives, right? (Unless we’re overly-ambitious and want those nine lives for ourselves…) But at times it will be necessary, and while the person who plays the leader will have a say in staff’s decision, we will be choosing them similarly to the leader auditions.
So if you glanced at the current high ranks, you’ll probably have noticed that we have no deputy. This is purposeful, however, and will not be filling the position right away. This is mostly because Badgerstar is just a tad bit insane refused to name a new deputy upon the old deputy’s death. Obviously, the clan doesn’t particularly agree with this, but for the last few moons, nothing has changed. And, nothing will change until Badgerstar’s death. (Visit the plot threads for information about all of that.) So, when Badgerstar dies (which will be happening sometime after we get the site more active and underway), StarClan is going to intervene before chaos breaks out. IC, they will pick the cat most fitting to be the new leader, and that leader will pick a new deputy – OOC, we’ll be doing that here.
I would highly suggest making your character normally, and then auditioning with them, because I cannot tell you exactly when this will happen IC. Your audition may be sitting for a while, even a few months as we try to get plots rolling. So it would be very helpful to actually play your character – get a better feel for them than writing an app gives you, plot out relationships with current characters, etc. When it comes time to choose the new leader, we will take current and past rp activity into account.
However, you do not have to make and play your character. Maybe you have other character ideas you want to make, and want this character to only be made if they get the leadership position. That’s fine as well – but you will still need to make a temporary account for them and fill out an app, because we want that information. We will make a special board for audition-only apps, and you can simply mention in the thread title or at the very top of the app that it is audition-only.
Either way, once your app has been posted and accepted, you will need to come here and fill out an additional (much smaller and more specific) form:
Cbox name: (what we call you) Complete list of characters: (list ‘em) Activity level: (a post a week/a post a day/checking the site most days and posting when needed/however you want to describe it – we will be taking your current activity level into account anyway) Your willingness to work with staff for plots: (you will be integral to major plots, or incredibly affected by them, so you will need to keep an eye on your PMs)
Character name: (self-explanatory) Character app: (link to your posted, accepted app) Traits that make this character a good choice for deputy: (list and explain them) Negative traits of this character: (because we all need balance, and want to know what we’re getting into – list and explain them) Roleplay sample: (choose one of the following prompts and write out your average post – note: length will not earn you brownie points; we’re looking for quality, not quantity)
1) Organize/start a patrol – border or hunting
2) Your leader has given you an unpleasant task (up to you) – one that might even be against the warrior code – but they have assured you multiple times that it doesn’t have to go that far. And after all, the clan leader’s word is law. What do you do?

Cbox name: Owl Complete list of characters: Littlestorm, Jayheart, Maia Activity level: Checking the site most days and posting when needed. I'm not always the best about hanging out in the c-box - I usually log off shortly after catching up on any new posts, but will chat while writing posts. Your willingness to work with staff for plots: Super-duper willing
Character name: Littlestorm Character app: click! Traits that make this character a good choice for deputy:
Strong -- This is in reference to character, not physical strength. Littlestorm has been taught to compensate for her small size with a big presence since a young age, and it has made her a better cat. She is loud, authoritative, and does not hesitate to make decisions (which can sometimes be for the worse, as discussed below). She does not crave power, however; she is neither a leader-type nor follower-type but rather a trailblazer, a cat who is not afraid to make a tough or even unpopular decision and stand by it, and a strong believer in leading by example. Though she has never truly stopped to examine her moral code, she instead relies on her gut instinct to tell her what is right and what is best. She is, like any cat, prone to any number of mistakes, but she owns up to them. It is hard to perturb this she-cat, and though she may come off as cold or unapproachable due to her sharp tongue and no-questions demand for loyalty, this outwardly frigid facade is simply the "game face" that she wears when truly acting for what she feels is the best of the clan.
Camaraderie -- While delegation is an important skill, it is also important to be able to display a certain amount of camaraderie with fellow warriors. While a leader of a clan should be more suited to lord above the other cats to emphasize their authority, a deputy shares a den with his or her clanmates and takes apprentices, and all in all must be quite comfortable rubbing shoulders often with their peers. While Littlestorm is infamous for her quick temper, sarcasm, and crude humor, there is little actual malice - if anything, it is how she connects with her peers. In her early warrior years, she would happily switch patrols with a fellow warrior to act as wingwoman, so he could be in the same patrol as his crush. She might have done it with a comment or two about the tom in question being a "love-struck mousebrained cuckoo" but would give him of flick of her tail on his shoulder as she passed to take the sting off her words and wish him luck. The lack of power-hungriness helps her fit in and, she hopes, earn respect rather than force it.
Adaptive -- Littlestorm is certainly not afraid to think - and act - outside the box. She is not shackled by tradition or a particularly fervent belief for StarClan nor a staunch believer in tradition. To her, imperfection is something that must constantly be tackled by endless change. This reflects itself in things such as her style of fighting or fishing, both of which are somewhat unusual but used to help compensate for her small frame. This contributes as well to to her unflappability, as even the most drastic of changes can only present to her a challenge to overcome. This would put her on the issue of one clan back to four as "open-minded" - though she does not despise and regret the change of four clans to one, should the clan seem broken and ready to fracture again, she would not fight against a regression to the old ways.
Negative traits of this character:
Impulsive -- That gut instinct thing where she always tries to do the right thing? Yeah, well sometimes it's hard to determine the right course of action when you constantly jump into things. Littlestorm is emotionally-driven, and can sometimes act foolishly due to lack of forethought. This could be anything charging into a battle before assessing the odds of success, or taking it upon herself to personally investigate a curiosity rather than first reporting it back to camp. Though tempered somewhat by age, Littlestorm can sometimes act before thinking, a trait that is often dressed up as "bravery" but is, to its core, simply foolish.
Temper -- While Littlestorm is unflappable in the sense that a natural disaster would be taken in stride, she is not unflappable in the slightest when it comes to an insult or careless comment. It takes very little to set off Littlestorm's temper, and this proves a major weakness. All that hard work on an alternative fighting style and adapting quickly to situations becomes moot if her judgement becomes clouded and she instead opts to hurl herself straight at a cat's bad-mouthing face. When in a fierce temper, she becomes extremely difficult to reason with. It is worth saying that the effects are not permanent, however; many an apprentice have thought that Littlestorm took a particular disliking to them, only to discover that no apprentice - Littlestorm's or no - was perfect enough to not have received a callous remark from her at some point, and that it didn't mean a thing about her relationship with them.
Size -- Despite her every effort to compensate for her small stature, there is no denying that a small cat is simply not as suited for clan life as a larger one. Littlestorm is not just lanky or thin or squarely built; most of the apprentices pass her in size before becoming a warrior. She struggles to keep up with other cats if they are running at their full potential for long distances (though she can beat most at a sprint) and must be exceedingly careful to avoid being pinned down in a fight. Though her size gives her some advantages - nimble and aware, and a fighting style that some might call "playing dirty" that she calls "using what you have" to name some - it is ultimately something that she has learned to live with, not something that has become a glorious blessing-in-disguise.
Roleplay sample: (choose one of the following prompts and write out your average post – note: length will not earn you brownie points; we’re looking for quality, not quantity)
2) Your leader has given you an unpleasant task (up to you) – one that might even be against the warrior code – but they have assured you multiple times that it doesn’t have to go that far. And after all, the clan leader’s word is law. What do you do?
”I’m innocent, Littlestorm. You know me! We were apprentices together!”
The tom’s high-pitched, terrified cries made Littlestorm’s stomach feel as if it were made of lead. She and the clan’s elite trackers had been chasing down Spottedfur’s scent all morning, eventually finding him cowering in the hollow of a massive tree. Littlestorm had hoped the tom would have taken off and been far outside of the territory by now; now, this predicament left her with the ugly job of exile.
The previous night, a new warrior standing vigil after receiving her full name was killed, raising the alarm just soon enough that the entire camp woke up in time to see the light fading from her eyes. From her protective position in front of the Leader’s den, it took little deducing to see that it had probably been an attempt on their leader’s life, but that the attacker had gotten scared and fled when the young she-cat had sounded the alarm. Whitestar, though a relatively new leader of WildClan, had already lost many of his lives to particularly vicious strain of whitecough. There had been a general feeling of unrest the past few moons; it seemed that all the apprentices and kits could talk about were the days of old when there were four clans, and Whitestar had begun to become paranoid and suspicious of who was putting those stories in the young cats’ heads. Spottedfur had been the only one unaccounted for when they took headcount. Littlestorm also suspected that Whitestar had taken one look at the warrior’s lanky, thin and WindClan-ish frame and found his murderer. Spottedfur had only offered a weak excuse of making dirt to explain where he had been, which was quickly refuted; he had otherwise refused to say where he had gone during the attack. Whitestar was not in the mood to play detective, perhaps emotionally compromised from the fear that it could have been him and not the warrior standing vigil whose body was getting cold in the camp clearing.
Exile, Whitestar had said, or death. Littlestorm tried to banish thoughts of play-sparring with Spottedpaw in her apprentice days, rolling her shoulders forward and preparing herself for the difficult task. She did not like this system of guilty-until-proven-innocent, but Whitestar’s increasing paranoia that his life was in danger made it difficult if not downright impossible to reason with him.
”Listen closely because I’m only saying this once. You are exiled. You have severed your connections to WildClan and StarClan and must now live out the rest of the days as a rogue, as punishment for your… actions.” She was trying desperately hard to tune out his pathetic whimpering, but could feel her resolve faltering. She took a deep breath, continuing in a loud, authoritative tone. ”If you refuse to leave, or we see your face within clan boundaries again, we will issue no second warning. You will be removed.” The whimperings of Spottedfur accumulated into a loud wail. Littlestorm did not hesitate; she had said her piece. She dove forward into the hollow, forcing Spottedfur out. The thin brown and white cat scampered out, looking to the faces of his clanmates for sympathy. Perhaps he found some on their faces; Littlestorm would never know. She was hot on his heels all the way out to the moorland. Just when there appeared to be a bit of distance between them, Spottedfur stopped. Littlestorm saw his mouth start to open, saw the beginnings of a plea at the tip of his whiskers.
She did not hesitate. She dove forward, fastening her jaws around his tail and biting as hard as she could. The taste of blood and texture of fur soon filled her mouth, and she waited an extra moment before releasing her hold. Spottedfur never said what his last words to her – to his clan. With a yowl of pain, he ran and did not stop till he was out of sight.
Littlestorm spat the fur out of her mouth, feeling sick at the sight of the red hairs. She had done what she had to do. Had she not, Whitestar would have simply found some other cat to do exile the accused tom... or worse, made an "example" out of him in front of the whole clan. It was wrong, and Littlestorm would do everything in her power to prevent it from happening again, but Spottedfur’s fate was sealed by Whitestar’s fear. It was only after the fact that Littlestorm would be able to act, and she felt guilt weigh on her small shoulders that she would not be able to help her friend. Permanently maiming Spottedfur’s tail may have seemed extreme and even cruel to her patrolmates, but to her it was her last favor to Spottedfur; he had to understand that he could never come back, even if it meant showing him that even his old friends would not show him any sympathy, only further cruelty.
She looked the other cats on the patrol squarely in the eye – a fearsome sight of a small she-cat with a little bit of blood staining the white hair on the underside of her maw and throat – before silently leading the way back to camp.

Cbox name: berryfuls Complete list of characters: Brightpaw, Appleheart, Ravenfur Activity level: Over the summer, I check the website every few hours and post as needed or when I want to start open threads. Once school starts in September, I can check in every evening (except when a play is running, but I’ll let you guys know my schedules with those) and on weekends. Your willingness to work with staff for plots: very willing. I’ve worked with staff on plots before and have served as a Clan leader on a fairly active site, so I’ve taken a lot that’s been thrown my way in the past.
Character name: Ravenfur Character app: link here Traits that make this character a good choice for deputy:
- He plays by the warrior code and little else, but he tries not to be a snob about it. He’s kept his head down low with everything with Badgerstar, choosing not to get involved in the politics since his word is law, even if it has to be ruffling StarClan’s fur to no end. Even if it breaks other laws of the code. Yeah, he’s kept his head down low, but his head has been full low thoughts on the whole situation.
- He adores WildClan. He really does. He loves not living through the horrid stories he heard in the nursery of territory disputes between the old Clans. And more than that, he loves each and every member of the new Clan, just because he sees everyone as his family.
- He is an excellent fighter and will fight whoever and whatever if they threaten WildClan, because as previously stated, that’s his family. No one messes with a bear’s cubs and gets out alive.
- While he may see the entire Clan as his family, he is currently mate- and kit-less, allowing him to make difficult decisions for the sake of the Clan as a whole without worrying about any blood family he would have.
- He’s kind of a giant monster of a cat. It comes in handy, whether it be in battle or in intimidation.
Negative traits of this character:
- He is a little stand-offish: while he is polite and diplomatic to all, he finds difficulty in playing and joking around, or even making and keeping close friends. But he tries, he really does.
- Ravenfur is like a big teddy bear who will kill you if you hurt someone he loves. Due to his teddy bear side, sometimes he can be a little too soft-hearted, maybe taking pity on those far weaker than him. That usually only applies to any kit younger than your average apprentice, so it doesn’t interfere with his duty very often.
- While not having a family can be a pro, it can also be a con. Because he’s never had a real family of his own, he’s never felt the fierce protection over anyone other than his sister, who has always been able to take care of herself and didn’t need any saving.
Roleplay sample: (option 1)The cursed rabbit escaped again. How dare it? Didn’t it know who was chasing it? The cruel creature. Maybe it did know, because it kept running away from the huge black tom. It just seemed to taunt him, always out of reach. Ravenfur paused and so did the rabbit, stopping to listen for pawsteps. The male crouched, gathering his energy. Then he launched and, just as his claws touched the animal-
He awoke.
Ravenfur twitched his whiskers, wishing his dream could have at least ended with a victory one way or another. Ah well. He did have duties to attend to this morning. As much as he wanted to, he didn’t have time to sleep in and dream about fleeing bunnies. He got up slowly, blinking the sleep out of his eyes. He gave his pelt a small shake to rid himself of any moss that may have clung to him, and made his way out into the camp. Already a few early-risers were milling around, eating a small breakfast to just chatting with one another. It was nice actually. Too bad he was going to ruin it.
“Wolfstone! Froststep!” he called out to a pair nearby and bounded over to them. Once he was sure he had their attention, he continued. “Border patrol today, okay? Go wake up Berrypaw and take her with you. She could use the experience.” He nodded and started to walk away. He then stopped and turned back to add, “And Duskpaw. He needs it too. And go out to the moor!” Satisfied with himself for adding both warriors’ apprentices to the patrol, he went off to another couple of Clanmates. He figured he would go along with them and take the forest border, so the marshlands and the river could be patrolled around sunhigh.
“Hello,” he greeted, twitching his tail. “We’re going to be the other border patrol. We’ll head out to the forest. Can you go wake up Sparrowpaw and bring him too?” he asked, watching as the mentor stood up to collect his apprentice. Ravenfur’s paws itched to get going. “I’ll meet you at the top of the hollow.” With that, he padded away, satisfied with himself. He grabbed a mouse off the fresh-kill pile and climbed up to the rim of Fourtrees, before settling down to eat his breakfast. Another day, another patrol. Anything to keep the Clan safe.
